It’s a sad but true fact that man (and woman) can’t live on coffee alone…even if it’s the delicious coffee poured daily at Southside Roast. Owner Ann Dooley knew she’d have to offer something more than the regular coffee shop fare to get people in the door once noon hit. Ann was lucky enough to come across a chef who specializes in soups and was happy to cook up his creations for Southside Roast. Ann offers two of Chef Miller’s soups daily, everything from Cream of Mushroom to Split Pea to Pasta Fagioli to Chicken Noodle. Chef Miller’s newest offering which debuted this week was Chili, perfect to combat the cold.
I sampled two of the soups, Chicken Noodle and Cream of Broccoli. I was most impressed with the fact that not only could you taste the freshness of the ingredients, but that they weren’t overwhelmed at all by salt. I could have easily had a large bowl of either soup. Ann said that not only are they doing a brisk business during lunch, but that many people will get a quart to go and then save it for dinner time.
In addition to the new soup menu Southside Roast is also offering an improved sandwich menu. Their offerings include Hand Carved Turkey, Grilled Chicken, Tuna Salad, and Hummus Tabouli. They also have their regular sliders which are the perfect pairing with a cup of soup. On the beverage side, Southside Roast also adds new drinks to the menu each month. Their latest creation is the Dark Raz – espresso, steamed milk, dark chocolate and raspberry sauce and raspberry syrup. My husband ordered one the other day and loved it. I enjoyed the one little sip he let me have from it also…
Ann is also collaborating with Chef Miller on a brunch menu that they hope to debut in February. She is also planning to have another comedy show as they’ve been extremely popular in the past. Ann is not content to sit still – she is constantly working to add new and delicious creations to her menu. So if you haven’t stopped by recently, now is the time to do so. Just save some of that Chicken Noodle soup for me.
